MMHMF Scholarship Recipient


The Foundation is very pleased to award the 2016 scholarship to Taylor Thomas-Harris. Taylor, daughter of Antwan and Sharon Harris, graduated from Matoaca High School in June 2016. She will attend Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia this fall, majoring in psychology.

During her years at Matoaca High School, Taylor was a well-rounded student with a range of interests and activities. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Honor Society of High School Scholars. Taylor received numerous awards including the Outstanding Youth Award, Leader in Me Award, and the John Merchant Book Award. In addition, she was honored as an Outstanding Student in Spanish and

received Academic Letters. Taylor also participated in the Future Business Leaders of America; Best Buds Club, where she served as Vice President; Distributive Education Clubs of America; and was a Student Mentor.

Taylor's involvement in extracurricular and community activities is equally impressive. She is an advocate for Cerebral Palsy, was a Debutante, and participated in youth leadership forums at Virginia Commonwealth University and at James Madison University. Service through her church is a major part of Taylor's life. At Union Grove Baptist Church, she is a member of Missionary Ministry, Praise Dance Team, and Choir. She also assisted with Vacation Bible School.

Taylor is inspired and motivated to succeed by her parents, who she describes as always having faith and confidence in her abilities. She is especially interested in motivational speaking, advocating for individuals with Cerebral Palsy and special needs, and in youth leadership. The Foundation is proud of Taylor and is accomplishments and is delighted to support her education as she begins her freshman year at Longwood University!
